The original Cell was one of the best balls I have ever owned, if not the best. I have never bowled with an aggressive ball that was as forgiving and carried as well as The Cell. The Cell was a crucial part of my winning my second PBA Regional title.
I have bowled with every new release that Roto Grip has come out with since The Cell and each one of them is a great ball in its own way. I have had situations where I needed a ball that hooked later and stronger. The Cell Pearl or Nomad fit that bill. I have had situations where I needed something that could recover well on oily lanes and still make it back to the pocket. The Rogue Cell accomplished that very well. When the lanes were drier and I needed something to get through the heads, but still make a turn at the back end, my Mars with the pin on the axis worked perfectly, but my go to ball, and the ball I could always depend on to carry those so so hits, was The Cell.
Alas my Cell is getting a little long in the tooth and I was actually thinking about buying another one because I couldn't fathom life without it. Then along came the Mutant Cell. It outhooks either The Cell or the Rogue Cell, but still is a very forgiving ball, and the carry is phenomenal. I have frustrated a lot of opponents with my so called "lucky" strikes. While I don't think I'm going to retire my original Cell quite yet the only ball I have bowled with since I drilled it, is the Mutant Cell.
As a Pro Shop owner if someone came to me and asked me to recommend a ball The Cell was the ball I would suggest to anyone that didn't have one. I would sell Cell Pearls and Rogue Cells to those who already had a Cell and wanted something with a different look. Now I have absolutely no hesitation to recommend The Mutant Cell to everyone.
