Storm Match Up Pearl another great ball in the Match line. The roll is clean through the front with a strong move in the backend. I use this ball when there is carrying down it will go long and make a move through the back.

These two Storm balls (Match Up and Match Up Pearl) sum up what entry level balls can be. Ultimately, they may be a bit much for a true novice but fit the bill nicely for more experienced bowlers when you want step down balls or if dealing with medium/lower volume patterns. What Storm did was release this ball with the 1500-grit polished out of box finish. This offers a nice shelf appeal, but ultimately completely distinguishes this Match Up from the previous Match with its 2000 grit sanded OOB finish. The Match was kind of a specialty ball for tournament bowlers because it offered the rare ball that offered great front to back control reaction. The Match Up finish makes it more of a side to side ball. I don't honestly know if you sanded the Match Up if it would turn into the Match but this is one that will be easier to throw for many people on your typical house shots. It will obviously store more energy and have a nice readable but strong motion down lane.

For the Match Up Pearl, I loved the fact that this is the first Storm ball since the Lights Out that I can personally control front to back rather than side to side. I was able to more or less keep the ball in front of me with a simple 12 at the arrows to 7 at the breakpoint look. When I can be there, my life is good. Don't be deceived. Many video reviews cut out the bad shots. I threw 8 of 9 strikes straight out of the gate on this fresh shot, it was so easy to throw. It has easy length as you would expect with a nice muted but strong arc to the pocket. I totally loved it because I carried everything. I had an opportunity to test it on a lower volume pattern with wood backends and it reminded me how aggressive Storm covers are. This thing moved more than I thought it would.

The Storm Match Up and Match Up Pearl sell themselves. They are inexpensive, high performing, and easily could suffice as a 1-2 punch for most THS conditions. Both Guy and I would prefer to knock that polish off with maybe a light 4000 grit pad to get rid of some of that over/under but we could easily see these balls are a nice addition to the lineup.

What I was looking for:

The Match Up Pearl was drilled with the Pin Up. I am a cranker and I have high ball speed. I wanted the ball to be smooth arcing and read the middle part of the lane well.

What I got:

The Match Up Pearl was exactly what I was looking for. The ball had a great arcing and smooth rolling motion throughout the entire pattern. The ball was not over / under reacting. The ball had great pin reaction. I found the Match Up Pearl to be about 5 to 7 boards stronger than the original Match Pearl.

The Match UP Pearl is one of the newest release in Storm’s Hot Line. The combination of the Reactor Pearl Reactive Shell and the Stinger 2.0 Core is a highly responsive bowling ball for your buck. The Match UP Pearl generates generous length with a very powerful backend motion. I did have a Match Pearl and it was very over under and I had some issues with continuation through the pins. However, the Match UP Pearl seems to have corrected that! The Match UP Pearl’s response to the dry is very distinct and powerful through the pin deck. The pleasant surprise was how it handled the over under of a freshly laid house pattern. The Match UP Pearl has really good length and I was able to play right almost on top of the friction with no issues. When the pattern started to break down and had some carry down the Match UP Pearl still went through the pins as I moved left. The layout that I used was pin over the fingers with the CG kicked out with an extra hole at 7 inches through the cg. The Angles are 45 X 5.5 X 45 and that is based off my PAP which is 5 5/8 over and ¾ up. I am right handed with a rev rate around 300 with medium ball speed (approx. 15 mph).

I can see the Match UP Pearl being used by beginner bowlers or experienced players looking for that strong but not too strong bowling ball. The Match UP Pearl will be in my bag for the burn squads or shorter patterns, so I can stay right and play my A game!

The Match Up Pearl will be a great choice on most house patterns and lighter oil conditions. This ball easily gets down the lane and stores enough energy to make a nice strong move off the spot. I will get lots of use out of this ball for sure. If your looking for something to cut through heavier oil this will not be the ball for you but if your in the market for a ball to dominate lighter to medium oil conditions this is a great purchase!! Priced very nicely too!!
