What I Was Looking For In This Ball Layout:

I started bowling around 1997, when Quantum was at the height of their popularity. As a young kid, the Quantum brand was the ultimate to me. They were quite expensive at this time, so I saved and saved and the Fire Quantum was the only Quantum I was ever able to get. Quantum was always known for the way they stored energy though the pins and their outstanding carry. The Fire Quantum had great length but had a very heavy roll. I've never had another ball that really reacted similarly so I was excited to see if Brunswick could recreate it.

What I Ended Up With in the Ball and Layout:

The first shot I threw with the new Fire Quantum was like jumping in a time machine. Other than the color being slightly different, this ball rolled exactly like I remembered the original rolling. Great length, but that heavy roll that I remembered. When I say heavy, I don't mean early rolling. It has some angularity but it's extremely predictable.

What I loved about the original and the new version so far was that you never seemed to have over/under, which is a usual drawback to a pearl coverstock. The original was the first pearl I ever remember being a viable option on heavier conditions and the new version is the same way.

The Fire Quantum is a ball that will cover a very wide range of lane conditions. The Quantum core matched with a strong, predictable pearl coverstock just reads the lane so well. The thicker coverstock and less filler material really improves carry and power through the pins. I'm extremely impressed with Brunswick's ability to create a new version of one of the greatest balls of all-time. It will also be one of the greatest of modern times as well.

I have been impressed with how these vintage ball have performed and the Fire is just another one of those ball that I threw many years ago. To have it back in my hand, and being so easy and controlled on the lane. In saying that once it hits that pocket, with that increased cover it just kills the pins! I have a pin down layout and this is the first ball out of my bag on my typical house shot. Very easy read. This ball capture everything that the old ball did. With more power through the pins.

This ball gets down the lane very nicely before making a nice hard turn into the pocket. It is not skid snappy so it doesn't look like it gets kicked at the breakpoint but more of a hard arc.

The Quantum Fire Pearl is Brunswick's newest pro performance bowling ball. It may be Brunswick's highest price point, but it is well worth it. I usually start with the Forest Green Solid for majority of the first game on my local house shot. Then as the lanes begin to transition, I ball change to the Fire Pearl to get some extra length and more angle to the pocket. For me, I also move my feet 2 to 3 boards left as well, and know it will get back to the head pin.
When I threw the Fire Pearl on the 34' Las Angeles pattern, it skid easily through the front part of the lane, and did a great job of saving energy for the pins. If you like to hear your ball hit the pins, this is the ball for you. Everyone in the bowling center will hear it!
The Fire Pearl also rolled very well on the 45' Mexico City pattern, after the pattern had been slighlty broken down. It allowed me to move further left than the rest of my arsenal, and it would still recover where I needed it to down lane.
It's not too late to get your free bag as well.

Layout and technical gibberish aside. Now that I have a few games on the ball, this ball carries everything. Its not just my imagination with how many half 10, bucket crumbles, wallys, etc, etc, that fall compared to other balls. The pins fly around more and that means more strikes. It compensates for your errors and you get a free bag, just buy it. Its that good.

Quantum Fire Pearl

I drilled this ball 60 x 4 1/2 x 75, putting the pin below. This ball easily gets through the front part of lane, and maintains its high axis rotation giving it a strong angular motion through the pin deck. This ball gives me the great 1-2 punch I need on the lanes, if the Quantum Forest Green Solid is burring up too quickly, I just switch to this ball. This makes for quicker and easier adjustments when lanes transition. This ball is incredible, reads the lanes with great predictability. This ball is great for medium oil patterns, and it will give the bowler great confidence with its superior recovery and very strong hitting power. This ball is incredible, you will destroy your house shot with this ball. Feel free to contact me by email with any questions; troy_300_1999@yahoo.com.

I won't bother you with all the technical stuff since you can read it all above. Man.....this ball gives me that old school Quantum feel for today's lane conditions and more importantly it still has that old school punishing hitting power you can expect from a Quantum. I have both the Pearl and Solid Quantums and i typically start off with the Solid Forest Green. When it start coming off the spot to strong I bring out the Pearl and pick up where i left off. These 2 balls are a perfect 1-2 combination to any bowlers arsenal. I have already had a few dedicated to 1 company give this ball a try and they are now believers. Isn't time you started believing????

This ball is a great compliment to the Forest Green Quantum. Its much cleaner than the Green Quantum but still produces a predictable shape that reminds everyone of the old Quantum's. It hits HARD too. That thicker shell produces 13% more and it shows. Don't Forget you get a FREE 3 ball roller when you buy ANY Quantum!!!

Drilled this ball pin over middle finger, box finish. Used on Autobahn after game 1 transition. This ball clears the troublesome midlane fairly easily, even for a low/medium speed player like myself.

Hitting power was strong, and it seemed to create some mistake area right of my target that I wasn't seeing with other pieces.

I saw it as about 5 boards stronger than my pearl Ridiculous, but certainly not too strong to avoid using on medium to lower volume patterns.

A wonderful and necessary addition to any arsenal.

This ball is really smooth, it doesn't change directions very quick, it would rather go steady. I found it to be not so sensitive about lane conditions, which I really liked. Great for shorter patterns.

Brunswick Quantum Fire. A must have ball in your bag.

This has to be one of my favorite light oil balls. I loved the Brunswick Melee Jab. When that was discontinued I looked to the Quantum Fire to fill that spot. The house I bowl in on Monday night is so dry so playing down and in isn't an option for me. So left is where I start. This ball is so clean and predictable.

The Fire Pearl Quantum has a similar motion to the original Quantum balls from 20 years ago because the construction, 2 piece ball, and core shapes are similar. With the pearl PK2016 coverstock formulation, it can handle medium amounts of oil and would work best when the lanes start to break down and you need a little more push through the front part of the lane. This ball has a higher RG which will help the ball get farther down lane before going into the roll stage. This ball is a great compliment when the forest green quantum is hooking too early. I used the pin down 60 x 4” x 75 dual angle layout on this ball to give me a smoother arcing type of motion on the lane. This layout works perfectly to create a smoother rolling ball with good continuation. I can use this ball close the same line as the forest green quantum but will get farther down the lane because of the pearl coverstock. I have used this ball on a flatter 39’ sport pattern later in the block when the forest green was hooking too early, and it allowed me to open up the lane a little without a skid /snap type of reaction because of my drilling. With the core weighing about 4 pounds, and 3.5 times more coverstock weighing about 11 pounds. This ball will transfer more energy to the pins, and create more opportunity to strike. The fire pearl quantum will give you a predictable ball motion, good continuation downlane, and will help you raise your strike percentage.

Fire Quantum – Drilled pin up, OOB Surface. This ball is exactly what I’ve been looking for, a strong symmetrical pearl! The Fire is very smooth off of the friction but still strong, its more a readable predictable motion as compared to some of the asym pearls that flip hard off the dry. Very continuous and definitely hits as advertised. Also the quantum bags are an awesome deal! Good quality triple roller, sturdy wheels. Can not beat this deal!

It is no surprise that the Fire Quantum would be a good complement to the Forest Green Quantum but I had no idea they would pair so well. First off I had this drilled pin up because I wanted a more angular shape with this ball so I could swing the ball later in the games and get away from the breakdown. This gives me exactly what I was looking for. The Fire Quantum floats through the fronts and gives me a significant shape and response on the backend. I have no doubt that I can get right, swing this left and it will make it back. I haven't seen myself carry as any messengers as I have with this ball. The pins just fly! I never had the privilege of throwing the priginal but I understand now why the Quantum series was as loved as it was. If you need a ball for later in your set, give the Fire Quantum a try and you wont be let down

I drilled my Fire Quantum with the CG right under the ring finger and the pin about .75 inch to the right and about 1 inch above the ring finger. I've found this ball to be smooth a little more on the smoother side, for a pearl, and it hits the pins incredibly hard. The ball will pick up just a bit sooner than most of my pearl equipment. This ball is a totally different look than anything I currently have in my bag. I definitely recommend it for medium to dry lane conditions. The pin carry and energy possessed in this ball are something that I have not seen before. I'd recommend this to anybody looking for a good benchmark ball.

Review:

40ft. House Pattern, Medium-Heavy Blend

I drilled the Fire Pearl Quantum pin under to be a smooth, yet longer version of the Forest Green Quantum, and that’s exactly what I got. Using this ball on fresh THS is great, especially when I have room left with friction to wheel it off of, as it creates extra area and “miss room”. Being on the left side, I am able to play straighter with more aggressive equipment while still being able to “bang on it”, which is why the Fire Pearl Quantum was a perfect fit for my game. My first three game set on my league was a 720 with games of 239, 221, 260. The ball reaction is very clean through the heads and mid lane, but still gives a strong heavy roll into the pocket. I believe the combination of the strong symmetrical motor of the Quantum mushroom core, as well as the pearl cover stock, both allow this ball to achieve a more down lane type of hook, while still rolling heavy, which is the type of reaction you want from a versatile pearl. As far as comparison to other equipment, I played 5 boards further left with my feet, and 3 boards further left with my eyes than with the Forest Green Quantum. If you’re looking for that benchmark pearl ball in your lineup, then pick up a Fire Pearl Quantum.

Team USA Mexico City Oil Pattern

I was curious how the Fire Pearl Quantum would handle the longer oil pattern (45ft.) that Mexico City lays down, and was actually pleasantly surprised with the results. With a 5 1/4” pin under layout, the Fire Pearl Quantum starts its move early enough to give a more readable reaction on this oil pattern. If I had a long pin over layout, I don’t feel it would have given me the look I desired on this longer oil pattern. Carry percentage was the only issue on this pattern when it was fresh, but after throwing a few games, and breaking down the pattern (with the help of the Forest Green Quantum to burn up a spot), the Fire Pearl Quantum really shined. It’s a perfect compliment to the Forest Green Quantum, which worked great on Mexico City until they broke down, and then I could move right to the Fire Pearl Quantum and pick up where the Forest Green Quantum left off, playing a similar part of the lane. I shot games of 212, 209, 217 (fresh oil) and then games of 238, 245, 257 on the burn. On this pattern, I played 4 boards further left with my feet and 2 boards further left with my target than the Forest Green Quantum.

Overall Impression

I would say that overall the Fire Pearl Quantum is a must own for any bowler looking to add a ball that can handle a variety of lane conditions, from medium blends to shorter patterns. The cover stock is very surface adjustment friendly, so don’t be afraid to sand or polish the cover stock to your liking. This ball fits perfectly behind the Forest Green Quantum (very aggressive) and the Brute Strength (medium oil monster) in my arsenal, and it will be in my bag for a long time. If you’re a one day a week bowler, this ball will help get you the most bang for your buck, as the pearl cover will widen the amount of lane conditions you can hit with one ball, especially as patterns break down. Also, if you’re the serious, competitive bowler such as me, then this ball HAS to be in your bag at all times. I can’t wait to use it on an even wider variety of flatter tournament conditions and see this ball shine. If you’re looking for your next benchmark pearl ball, or looking to fill that gap between the super aggressive stuff and the milder reacting balls, check out the Brunswick Fire Pearl Quantum, you’ll be glad you did!
