What I Was Looking For In This Ball Layout:

I've been a fan of pretty much ever Black Widow release. The Gas Mask core is amazing. I was excited to throw it surrounded by the new Semtek Solid coverstock, a version of which is on the Scandal.

What I Ended Up With in the Ball and Layout:

The Dark Legend Solid is another winner in the Black Widow Line. You still get the patented mid-lane read and controlled angularity of the Gas Mask core. The difference is that the Semtek Solid coverstock offers more traction in oil than we've seen from a Black Widow release. This ball will handle a good amount of oil at box finish and even more at lower grits.

The Dark Legend Solid is a controllable and predictable piece that covers a wide range of conditions. If you've thrown a Black Widow in the past and loved it, you're certain to love this one as well!

Black Widow Dark Legend Solid another great ball in the Widow series. The roll in the front reads the lane early with a smooth finish in heavy oil. This is a ball that needs oil if you need it for med oil patterns very easy to change the coverstock for faster roll in the front.

Holy hook Batman! The Dark Legend Solid is a more aggressive surface preparation and more aggressive overall cover to it's predecessor the Dark Legend. Strong mid lane reaction with impressive continuation off the deck.

I love the widow line but was worried about such a strong cover (Semtex Solid from the Scandal) so when I drilled it I put the pin in the ring finger. I was pleasantly surprised! This is by far the earliest rolling widow that I've thrown, but still maintains energy, and has great continuation. This will be the first ball out of my bag on any pattern with volume!

Here is my take on the new Dark Legend Solid by Hammer. This new Upper Mid Performance release features a solid version of the Semtex cover finished at 200 Abralon. As with all previous Legends/Widows/Taboos, the new Dark Solid Legend comes with the highly successful gas Mask core manufactured with Carbon Fiber. (3 year warranty). The ball is colored Blue and Black. This is my 12th year on Hammer staff.
Indeed, Hammer has released a number of different Legends and for good reason. By varying the cover, the bowler is given a variety of options for ball motion in an asymmetrical ball. It is clear that given the strength of the cover and factory finish, the Dark Legend Solid will be at its best on heavier volume patterns. In the current lineup of Legends, I would still put the Red Legend Solid as offering the biggest overall hook. The Dark Legend Solid, in my opinion, is slightly under the Red Solid Legend but gets around the corner better than the Red Legend Solid. If the bowler is on a light lighter volume of oil, then the original Dark Legend may well be an option in an asymmetrical release or the new Rebel for a symmetrical release.
Either way, as with all Gas Mask core balls, the driller can layout a variety of ball motions and a variety of bowler styles should see success with this ball. The key, I would suggest, is getting the proper cover for the condition that the bowler is on. If the bowler is on a heavier volume pattern and/or is looking for a replacement to a Red Legend Solid, the Dark legend Solid is an excellent choice. Similarly, if the bowler is looking for an earlier/stronger ball motion to complement an original Dark Legend, the Dark Legend Solid is a great option. I have tried this ball on PBA Bear, Kegel Gateway Arch, Kegel Turnpike and a variety of THS. The layout I have on mine is 65 x 5 ½ x 50 and on all patterns, the ball has been a great match up and thus appears to be in play on a variety of pattern lengths.
Please check out your local proshop for additional information on the new Dark Legend Solid.

The Dark Legend Solid is a great addition to the Black Widow legendary Gas Mask Core family. If you've liked any of the Black Widows or Taboos of the past this will be one of your favorites. Wrapping arguably the greatest core in bowling history with the Semtex solid cover gives the bowler an aggressive motion with the never quitting back end reaction. Great ball when there's a bit of oil out there!

Simply said...another Winning Widow! I love this core. This ball reads quickly, and reacts smooth and strong. It's great for me for heavy volume, and keeping strong surface has been wonderful without losing momentum and hit. Love this ball!

THE BEST BALL IN THE LEGEND SERIES, EXTREMELY PREDICTABLE BACK END BALL, JUST HAS A NICE "ROLL" OFF THE SPOT.

Able to use this ball on house condition when transition starts to dry up the outside part of the lane and the inside part of the lane still has those unused loads of oil. This ball can overcome the fresh loads and drive through the pins when playing deep angles. Also can peel off of the dry boards in a controlled roll if leaked too far right. Always have this one in the bag if the lanes get to this "cliffed" condition.

The Dark Legend Solid is a stronger version of the Dark Legend which this one can handle heavier lane patterns. For me this ball is 3-5 boards stronger overall, yet still retain energy down the lane for a strong continuation in the backends. This ball definitely has a place in my bag for longer / heavier lane patterns that I may face and allows me to move into the pattern when they break down. I have seen several styles throw this ball and this is versatile ball for the heavier medium to heavy lane patterns.

I think this ball will be a must have ball for those that are looking for something to use on heavier/longer lane pattern. This ball has a great motion that does not stop rolling in the backend – it really continues through the pin deck! Very versatile ball… You will be impressed!

With the 3 year warrantee that Hammer provides for this ball, this is the BEST bang for your money!

Semtex solid...Gas Mask Core!!! Home run ball. In my opinion this has been the best cover on this core since the original Taboo. Traction and control is what you get with this ball. Even with higher ball speed there's is no need to worry about this ball NOT hocking. This is yet ANOTHER ball from Hammer Bowling that you can put your favorite drilling in and wont be disappointed . For slower ball speeds and those that want to get straighter...a 4000 pad is your friend with this ball. Punch one up and ENJOY STRIKING!

I originally drilled my Hammer Dark Legend Solid at 30 x 3 1/8 x 65 and wasn't able to get much reaction out of this ball because of it's matted cover stock. So, I plugged and re-drilled it with a RICO layout and now this ball is a monster. I use it during transition and it recovers from anywhere and let's me tug it a little as well. Best of both worlds. Glad I got this ball back in my arsenal.
