About the Bowler

The new Widow Legend Red features the NBT Pearl cover along with the highly proven and successful “gas mask” core found on previous Widows and Taboos. Like with all current Hammers, the core is manufactured with “carbon fiber” and carries with it an industry leading 3 year warranty. The ball comes in a very sharp looking, polished red pearl color.
I drilled my Legend Red with a 65 x 6 x 75 layout, a layout that I have liked over the years in previous Widows/Black Taboos. I have thrown the ball on several different house shots and have always used the box surface.
The Legend/Legend Red combination reminds me so much of the original Black Widow/Widow Pearl combination…both highly successful balls from Hammer back in 2006-2008. The original Widow Legend has the same core but with the NBT Hybrid cover. By making a pearl version of cover, the specs sheet explains that the Legend Red should show additional length with additional recovery. In fact, the ball does exactly as advertised. The Legend Red shows more length and recovery than a similarly drilled/prepared Legend. I was actually amazed with the amount of ball motion I saw at the end of the pattern even with the weaker layout. As such, if you like the original Legend and are looking for a little more length for a drier pattern, the Legend Red will be your choice for certain. If you are bowling on heavy volumes, the original Legend or perhaps the new Bad Intentions by Hammer might be a better selection. The Legend Red shows excellent hitting power and ability to go through the pins consistently like with the original Legend.
As many already know, the “gas mask” core is very versatile and can be drilled to achieve many different ball reactions as well as suiting many different styles and rev rates. With the pearl cover, this ball will definitely be a huge asset on medium to lighter volume fresh patterns. Additionally, with this core/cover combination, I believe this ball will allow the player to chase the oil in and open up the lane. From all accounts, this ball is proving itself in the very short time it has been out on the PBA Tour.
The ball is a very sharp looking bright red pearl and will stand out when it is being thrown.
Be sure to see your local proshop operator about the new Widow Legend Red by Hammer.

COMMENTS

The Black Widow RED Legend follows up with the success of the Legend by adding a pearlized coverstock to offer a BIG backend motion to compliment the Legend & Assassin. This ball reminds me so much of the Black Widow Pearl which was one of the favorite Widow series ball of all time. The Red Legend is much cleaner through the front part of the lane than the Legend and offers a bigger backend motion than the Assassin & Legend. For me, this ball is about 3-4 boards weaker overall than the Legend, and about 3-4 boards stronger overall than the Assassin. The motion that sets this on different than the previous Legend & Assassin is that the Red Legend is more angular down the lane. This ball will work well with all styles of bowlers and offer a strong backend flip when you need more angle down the lane.

Dislikes: For me, this ball is too over/under for the fresh patterns, but really excels when during the transition & when you need to move in and open up the lane. When using it on the drier patterns, it still got through the front part of the lane with ease, but due to my rev rate, it was burning up a little bit. Therefore, I would recommend it for the medium to medium heavier patterns.

With the new 3 year warrantee that Hammer provides for this ball, this is the BEST bang for your buck!
I think this ball will be a must have ball for those that had the original Black Widow Pearl or those that want a BIG backend flip motion down the lane. This ball has a great motion that does not stop rolling in the backend – it really continues through the pin deck! Very versatile ball… You will be impressed!

Wow this ball is amazing, this ball is the newest addition to the widow line, this ball when I threw it really like to get down lane and take a sharp turn and hit the pins pretty well with great carry; kicking out the ten and not leaving the stone 9 for coming in to high, This ball will be good on sport patterns because its very versatile and for you hammer lovers you defiantly see some of the old original Black widow movement like you did in the older days like what Tony demonstrates in the BB.com videos.

About the Bowler

Bought it at my local pro shop. had it drilled with the pin down to store energy. tossed a couple bad frames then took it to the house. rolled 186, 216, 289. not bad for the first time using the ball. left a lazy 10 pin on 2nd ball in the 10th. but now my favorit ball to throw. so smooth.

This the ball. This is my favorite in the line, gets down the lane effortlessly and absolutely trucks off the pattern. I throw it with box surface, and when the transition hits and it's time to stand left and throw right, this is the strike machine I always pull out. It hits the pins so hard and is the most skid flippy Asym ball I've ever thrown.

A great compliment to the Ebonite GB2. I have both with the same exact layout and when one doesn't go through the pins exactly right, the other will! Great ball for medium to dryer lanes. Makes for a killer house shot ball!

I just bowled 3 games out of the box with this. It rolls like a beast. Excellent mid lane read and nice angular break, quite controllable. 225,211,225 with 5 opens. My fault sloppy on spares. I played basically in the track area the first two games and then moved inside to the 4th arrow swinging to the friction. The drilling on this was pin down PAP 4 1/2 right with a balance hole. What I was looking for was control. I have plenty of hand and medium speed. So we went with Hammers Asymmetrical layout # 3 for a medium track. The score doesn't indicate how well the ball performed. Two solid 8 pins two solid 7 pins. Hey no 9 pin. I also increased in weight to 15 pounds 3 ounces before drilling and a 3 1/2 pin. This is a winner.
