Mastermind Intellect

Scoring with the Brunswick Mastermind Intellect is a no brainer.

Pin to PAP(5 1/8" over 1/8" up) - 5"
Dual Angle Layout - 55* x 5" x 35*
Balance Hole - n/a

Surface Preparation - Out of Box (500 gri Siaair, Royal Compound)

What I Was Looking For In This Ball Layout:
The Mastermind Intellect features the same core as previous Mastermind releases matched up with an all new Honor Roll A+ reactive cover. This combination is supposed to give you a good look that will fit in between the previous two Masterminds.

I used the same layout on this ball since I had good luck with it on the Mastermind and Mastermind Genius. I am expecting to see more length then the original Mastermind with a stronger move off the break point then the Genius. This layout should help with that motion by giving the ball plenty of help in the front while storing up a bunch of energy to give me a strong, angular motion down lane.

What I Ended Up With in the Ball and Layout:
The Mastermind Intellect did not disappoint for sure. It cleared the fronts with much more length then the Mastermind. Off my hand it got down lane with ease but it rolled strong enough that I think you can get into the oil on the fresh easier then with the Mastermind Genius.

The Genius gave a really strong mid-lane read, where the Intellect still got through it with little reaction to friction. This will be great for players that need as much down lane motion as they can get. The Intellect was super clean and got in the right position to set up a really angular motion off the break point.

I would say that Brunswick is 100% accurate in saying that this ball will fit right between the Mastermind and Mastermind Genius. The Mastermind did hook more overall but the Genius gave a much smoother more controllable motion. The Intellect was right in the middle, marrying up the pieces we loved from each of those releases into one really cool looking piece.

I think bowlers you loved their Masterminds or players looking to try Brunswick for the first time in a while will be amazed by the ball motion and will find a place in their bag for the Mastermind Intellect.

What I Was Looking For In This Ball Layout:

I was hoping for more length than the original Mastermind but with more midlane than the Mastermind Genius

What I Ended Up With in the Ball and Layout:

The Mastermind Intellect is probably the most angular Brunswick ball I can remember throwing. The Intellect is a perfect fit between both of the previous releases. This ball really reads the midlane and once it starts hooking, it doesn't stop.

I believe that this coverstock and finish really shows off how great the Mastermind Ultra Low RG core is. The polished, solid coverstock stores enough energy to really allow the core to show off what it can do. I was able to play more inside than with the previous Masterminds because I was able to create angle into the pocket. The carry was great and the pins were kept low.

The Mastermind Intellect is the perfect ball for lower rev bowlers looking to create angle into the pocket and for anyone looking for a ball for longer oil patterns!

About the Bowler

For those of you looking for an asymmetric solid ball that will surprise you...this is it! I've never rolled another one like it. The Intellect gets my high rev rate through the heads, reads the midlane phenomenally and unleashes a spectacular motion on the backend. I've been able to throw this piece on patterns ranging from 32ft (Wolf) to 50ft (old TOC). The versatility this ball gives me is unreal. This ball is at the top of my arsenal right now as far as hook potential however I'm not afraid to throw it even when the lanes are burnt. I just change my hand position a little bit and the ball doesn't overreact. If you buy this ball you will NOT be disappointed!

Drilled up a Mastermind Intellect with pin down and x hole, wanted a ball with more mid lane energy and I got everything with this ball as ordered. It has actually exceeded my expectations, awesome mid lane and still angular at the back end. Great addition to my already great arsenal. I am a moderate to low rev bowler and this ball has allowed me to play various lines other than my comfort zone. Brunswick just keeps getting better

This ball is the perfect ball to go to if your Mastermind is starting up too soon. The Mastermind Intellect matches up very well on heavy to medium oil patterns. I recently used one (45 x 4 1/2 x 40) on a 47 foot sport oil pattern. I have the pin closer to my center of grip to keep the reaction smooth with a cover alteration of 1000. In a tournament where most bowlers struggled to have reaction, my ball was hooking once it cleared the pattern. It has amazing predictability down lane, and because of its motion down lane I was able to kick out the 10 pin consistently where others were leaving flat tens.
My other Intellect is drilled (70 x 5 x 30), I left the surface alone. This ball is so versatile. I can play multiple angles with this ball. The great thing is I'm a medium rev and medium ball speed guy (15.6-16.2) This ball when it hits the friction, responds quickly with a strong continuous arc.
I really think Brunswick has hit the jackpot with the Mastermind Line. As a Brunswick Staff member the last 10 years I've seen a lot of Brunswick lines come and go. The Mastermind line gives the bowler the most versatility and ability to compete with the competition.

The Mastermind Intellect combines the best attributes of the original Mastermind and the Genius. The solid coverstock of this ball shoots through the front of the lane like the hybrid cover did of the Genius. When this ball gets down the lane it gives you that excellent traction and recovery that you had with the original Mastermind. The great thing about this is it gives you more versatility when playing different angles. If desired you can stay straighter longer because of how clean this ball is in the front part of the lane. The opposite looks great as well due to the powerful midlane traction this ball gives you. If you want to move in and throw it right you always have great recovery. This ball is a monster through the pin deck, the amount of energy it retains for a solid cover and super strong core is truly amazing.

The Brunswick MasterMind Intellect features the same weight block as the previous releases along with the new Honor Roll A+ solid reactive cover.

45 x 4 1/2 x 70...pin under ring finger with low WH on VAL line

Honestly speaking, when I first threw this release, I did not like it with the OOB finish. I am a 15 MPH bowler and that just did not work for me. After about a month of subpar performances, I decided to take the cover all the way up to 4000 grit and add slip agent polish---similar to my MasterMind Genius that I bowled 300 with....WHAT A DIFFERENCE....In the next 2 weeks I bowled 3 700 series, the highest being 771---WITH 3 OPEN FRAMES...

This ball is easily my go to ball when I can't get any pop on the back end or just want to see a quicker movement off the spot without loss of control. Once again another winner from Brunswick.

COMMENTS

Likes: Great ball that fits between the Mastermind and Mastermind Genius

Dislikes: None

The Mastermind Intellect is a great addition the the Mastermind series that fits between the Mastermind and Mastermind Genius. It has the easy length like the Genius, but is stronger downlane than the Mastermind with more continuation. The box surface with the Royal Compound finish has great traction in medium to heavier oil conditions, and takes well to changes. If you are looking for an all purpose ball that would be the 1st ball out of your bag, then the Mastermind Intellect is the ball.

About the Bowler

I was very excited to see Brunswick introduced the Mastermind Intellect to compliment the original Mastermind. Both my Mastermind and Intellect have a 55 x 5 x 45 layout. Due to the sheer strength of the Mastermind, I seldom find myself using it on traditional house patterns. It’s simply that strong. The Intellect however is the perfect compliment.
The Intellect retains more energy with its Royal Compound cover. It gets down lane easily and packs a punch at the pins. The Intellect goes with me to every tournament and never disappoints.
It’s perfect for bowlers with moderate to fast ball-speed. It’s also ideal for medium to longer oil patterns. I have changed the surface a few times and would recommend 2000-4000 Siaair surface.
The overall motion is controllable, smooth and strong. This is a must have asymmetrical ball in your bag.

About the Bowler

This ball is special! you really don't see a asymmetrical ball that finishes like the mastermind intellect. it really fits in well between the original mastermind and the genius. its a little longer than the mastermind and a little earlier than the genius and has great predictable motion off the end of the pattern. this would be a great ball for someone with a lower rev rate. I would definitely have this ball in my bag if I was a tournament bowler!

About the Bowler

This is a great high performance ball for many styles. The out of box finish allows this ball to get thru the heads, but the strong cover-stock gives it enough traction to read the mid-lane really well. This ball is a great ball to start out with on a fresh condition where you are wanting the ball to read the mid lane. I am slightly rev dominant and drilled this ball 65 x 5.5 x 35 to compliment the original mastermind and I couldn't be more happy with it. I already have a lot of games on this ball and put it thru a Detox Oil Extraction Machine and it returned the performance back to how I remember it when new. Buy with confidence with this one.

Out of box finish with the same drilling as Tony Ruocco. Ball was everything I could of asked for. First time I used it was Friday night and shot 248 the first game leaving 3 10 pins, also killing the intellect to cover those. Second game was 224 with pocket 7 10 in the 10th. Last game was 220 with 2 4 9 splits for a respectable 692 first series. Playing 16 out to 5. Ball held when I tugged it and showed the ability to recover when I got it out past 5. Never missed the pocket all night. Would recommend this ball to neone.

COMMENTS
Likes:With throwing 13lb balls I get a true feel of how good the coverstocks truly are. 13lb Assyms have the same core shape as the old Vapor Zones and roll really good. This ball didn't dissapoint for medium-heavy oil and might be the best compliment to a heavy oil coverstock ever produced by Brunswick. The Intellect is a perfect compliment to the first 2 Masterminds. It fits right in the middle of the Mastermind and the Genius. This is the best bench mark asymmetrical ball since the Nexus Solid. It handles oil but not too much in out of box finish and it handles mediums perfectly. A slight surface change created a good heavy oil reaction. This coverstock is extremely tunable.

Dislikes:I personally prefer solid one color balls but the shelf appeal on this ball is undeniable. So it isn't really a dislike rather than a personal quirk! :)

About the Bowler

Mastermind Intellect is the newest ball in our "hook" category. The ball is right in between the original Mastermind and the Mastermind Genius. It goes longer then the original but not as long as the Genius. I drilled mine pin down hole down under my bridge with a 5.25" pin. It gives me plenty of mid lane hook with tons of continuation through the pin deck. This ball will handle the heaviest of oil and should match up to a variety of styles. Get a Mastermind Intellect or get beat by one.

About the Bowler

The MASTERMIND INTELLECT is a great ball for heat oil and long Medium patterns. I put a strong layout in mind 3 3/8 for my high speed and low rev rate!! I used it in the TNBA TOURNAMENT and scored well with it. The ball read the lane great in the meds on the long pattern when everyone else struggled to hold the pocket. And when it got to the backend WOW it hit the pins like a truck and mixed them on the light hits and struck. So if your looking for a asymmetrical ball this will fit in any arsenal.

When Brunswick announced that Staffers were going to be able to use other brands, me being staffed with Radical, this was the first ball I wanted to try outside of Radical line. It is the perfect complement to the Original Mastermind and Mastermind Genius. It defines characteristics from both and gave me a look I had not seen in the Brunswick line.

I've owned all three Masterminds now. The Intellect fits perfect in between the Genius and original. Second game out of the box was a 300 with the Intellect. Bowled on synthetic house shot about 39ft. This ball carried the world for me. Can't wait until they come out with a pearl coverstock paired with this core. Sign me up.
