Roto Grip Cell Reviewed By: Mike-CGLanes-OH 07/01/2008 01:33 ( stars)

I just purchased the Cell not long ago and have about 20-30 games on it. I bought it as the same time as my Columbia 300 Resurgence. I wish I would have drilled the balls the same way so I could compare them apples-to-apples, but I didn't. And I'm actually glad. Here's why:

The Resurgence I drilled low-flare, and it is 1000 grit. It wants to hook the second it hits the lane and works great in heavy oil. This ball gets through oily heads great, then connects with the lane as soon as it hits the backend. It works very well on some of the PBA Experience conditions, but isn't really a good "house shot" ball. This is a good long-heavy-oil ball. Ironically this ball works as a spare ball because of the low-flare layout. I can flatten it out and throw this ball anywhere on the lane if I had to.

Now, the Cell I drilled maximum flare and this ball is awesome. It seems really versatile, as it rolls through the oil and starts moving mid way down the lane and never stops. It hits great and can be used in a variety of lane conditions with this hi-flare layout. The Cell is an ideal ball for a typical freshly-oiled house shot. I've also used it on the PBA patters and hits a little lighter than the Resurgence, which is OK by me. If you bowl on a first-shift house shot, this is the ball you want.

I give both balls (the Cell and the Resurgence) 5 stars. I feel the Resurgence grips the lane better and hooks more overall, but my Cell is much more versatile and kills the house shot and anything with medium to medium-heavy oil. I might end up buying another Cell at some point and cut the flare down for a more moderate "turn." There's no throwing my Cell at any 10 pins. It will turn on it's own even when flattened out. Any bowler looking to add more hook to their ball will LOVE the Cell. Drill this ball to FLARE, it will!
