Another great ball at a great price. I have my Pain drilled with a 4 1/2" pin with the cg down near my thumb with a balance hole down. This ball out of the box hooked very early for me on my league pattern. It makes a strong direction change. I now use it with 2000 Abralon and Ebonite Factory Finish Polish and now I get more length and the same strong change of direction at the breakpoint. When polished, this ball is the one to go to when my Black Widows are too much ball.

Pin: 4".
Drill: Pin 3 3/8" from PAP, below fingers, CG on thumb.
Surface: OOB.
Style: High rev.
Speed: Medium (17 MPH)
Average: 211 on a THS.
The Good: The Pain has a clean arc in oil. Predictable hook and carry.
The Bad: The ball tends to jump and roll out in the dry.
The Skinny: I actually use my Doom early, then switch to the Pain later, moving left and keeping it a few boards from the dry. The Pain bites more than the Doom, so I can swing it, clear the heads and make it back.

I can't believe how awesome the Raw Hammer Pain bowling ball is. I'm a senior in high school, and I previously threw the Hammer Big Blue Pearl, averaging 181 in leagues. I got the pain a few weeks before the season started, and I was amazed. A very predictable, consistent reaction. I'm a stroker, and throw it around 15 mph. On my first day of tryouts, I threw a 300 game... I was amazed. When the lane conditions are right, the Pain has a WIDE area, coming into the pocket with such power and pin carry, that I can't believe it sometimes.
My average is a 200 now, and getting higher. I just added a Storm Trifecta to battle heavy oil conditions where the Pain doesn't flip early enough, but on the other hand; I love the pain. :)

This review is pretty late in relation to the ball's "shelf life" (since it's been out for almost a year now), but just want to give Hammer some more "kudos" for this ball.
My PAIN has a 2.5" pin that is outside of and above ring finger (@ 1:00 position), with CG kicked out another 1.5" This gives the ball a "little" more clearing of heads, but it still wants to start hooking relatively soon.
This is my primary heavy oil ball. Therefore, I keep its surface no higher than Abralon 1000, but have also taken it down to 500 when needing to slop through heavier sludge, and it has no problem doing so.
Back-end reaction is pure power. I don't have a a lot of hand, yet this ball more than makes up for it on wetter conditions.
I'm a big fan of the Raw Hammer series, as I also have a Toxic and two Dooms. I simply love the way these things hit (which is quite hard)!
If you can no longer get a PAIN, I recommend you seriously consider the new Raw Hammer Anger (which, I admit, I don't have). However, since the Anger has a modified version of the "standard" Raw Hammer core, as well as a matte finish like the PAIN, it seems like it could very well be similar to its older PAIN cousin.

I am kinda new to the bowling game. I have only been bowling for a few months but I bought the Hammer Raw Hammer Pain bowling ball about three weeks after learning to throw a hook. I joined my first league and am now averaging 180. I love it.

I started bowling last summer and the Pain Raw Hammer was my second ball I bought. I like it a lot. It hooks pretty good and goes straight for the pocket. The only thing is is that it can be unpredictable at times depending on the oil. On drier lanes the ball hooks like crazy. It does pretty good on medium oiled lanes.

I am a beginner and don't know for sure if this is a great ball for beginners. Can be very unpredictable in drier conditions. Seems to be great on wet to medium conditions. Hits hard on those.

I love the Hammer Raw Hammer Pain bowling ball, works well on tougher/oilier conditions.
I have bowled two 300 games and a 797 and 832 series with this ball since getting it in Nov. 06. I am lefty and have the ball drilled with the pin under ring finger and the cg kicked out at 9 o'clock with weight hole.

I never heard of the Hammer Raw Hammer Pain bowling ball until my dad gave it to me brand new. He drilled it with the new inserts with the bumps for extra lift support. The first game I shot ever with it was a 277 along with a 752 series. It bumped my average up from a 178 to a 188. I had front 9 the first time I ever threw it. I shot another 700 4 months later along with another front nine game. I LOVE THIS BALL, and it's a very cheap for a good medium-heavy oiled lanes ball.
