STORM "Pro-Pin"™ Technology
By: Storm's Steve Kloempken
STORM's "PRO PIN" technology is taking layouts and ball reaction to the extreme. Once only used on the PBA Tour for condition specific drillings, these balls are now being made available in limited quantities to the general bowling public.
Why? As the requests, requirements, and styles of today's bowler changes to address new lane conditions and patterns, STORM is answering by providing and packaging these items separately from the standard first run items due to their unique nature and value.
STORM "PRO PIN" bowling balls are:
- All first quality STORM bowling balls
- Manufactured with the same high quality standards as all other STORM products
- Manufactured with the highest integrity
- Made with the same high quality materials as all other STORM products
- Great for specialized layouts and drilling options
- Potential for enhancing dynamic use of core position
- Meet all A.B.C., U.S.B.C. and P.B.A. regulations
STORM "PRO PIN" bowling balls are first quality bowling balls with pin distances over 5" from the center of gravity and top weight between 2 and 4 ounces. Through our testing, we have found that these balls lend themselves to a variety of drilling patterns outside the range of pins less than 5" which would require an extra hole to accomplish with standard pin and top weight specificiations. Based on the desired reaction, some Pro Pin drillings may require an extra hole for balance requirements.
Please visit your pro shop professional for assistance in determining the best layout for your style and lane conditions. Since the breakthrough of fine tuning reaction characteristics by the use of mass bias placements in the 1990's, large pin out balls have been a staple for many STORM Pro Staffers on the professional tours. Big pin outs occur when the weight block tips to one side of the ball. The further the weight block is tipped, the more the mass is biased to one side of the ball pulling the CG away from the pin. Advantages of these balls are as follows:
-Enhanced dynamics
-Stronger preferred spin axis
-More drilling versatility
-Superior reaction charcteristics
-USED ALMOST EXCLUSIVELY ON THE PROFESSIONAL BOWLING TOUR....
-Enables drillers to use larger extra holes increasing flare potential and ball reaction.
If you need a ball for oily lanes, the Vertigo™ is the one! STORM™ has incorporated a newly-formulated SFA™ coverstock, scuffed to an 800-grit matte finish, which maintains high-performance standards over time. On a heavily oiled pattern with moderate carry-down, the Vertigo™ revs up strong in the mid-lane and makes a dramatic turn at the break point. Don't take it from us, experience it for yourself. You'll be surprised with the backend reaction this ball produces despite the dull surface. Or polish the Vertigo™ up to 1500-grit to increase the backend "snap"! The pin action of the newly designed asymmetrical RAD3 weight block combined with the equally new SFA™ coverstock, will make your head spin!
The Perfect Scale™: Helping Bowlers Make Better Decisions. Because each manufacturer uses a different method for indicating a ball's hook potential, bowlingball.com developed a way for the consumer to compare bowling balls across all manufacturers.

I do a lot of ball testing for companies outside their factories. The most recent balls I tested were the Storm Vertigo and the Brunswick Fury. I found the Storm Vertigo for the cost excellent for medium to oily alleys-it is strong in the fore pocket and hook potential is high. The Vertigo has a decent back end and finish but has some weakness's and dies out on dry alleys-your average will rise with this little jewel-It has the potential to start weak and finish strong! The Fury by Brunswick is a strong finisher also but lacks the aggressiveness the Vertigo has-it is a fast hooking ball that has a strong back end but has a tendency to hook late and thus you have to make changes in the alleys and the way they are oiled and the alley finish . It will grab quickly on the reactive lanes-but on a glassier alley plain it has a tendency to skip, slide, and hook very little. It is a constant headache to stay consistent with this little ball by Brunswick-however The Fury is a wonderful ball and exceeds on its follow through, back end, and hooking potential on the oilier alleys-its a go-getter. Quick on the Brooklyn side and heavy in the pocket. The Vertigo is more of a "Gentleman's Ball" in that it does well on most conditions-it is a quick hooker with pocket excalibur in its follow through. If your a strong hooker, this ball will over-hook quickly. It's potential can compare to a High rated ball any day of the week if used on the proper lane conditions or moving to your right to allow for the high hook potential-For the money it is a good buy-As for the Fury it also is a decent buy for the money-again the Lane conditions controls this particular ball-be prepared to adjust a lot with this one. Once you have it "down pat" she can be quite a ball to add to your arsenal- I rate the Storm Vertigo higher than the Fury due to the variance and strength in the pocket and end pocket....
